Notable Brothers

Alumni Spotlights

Brothers who have gone on to distinguished careers in business, law, medicine, public service, and beyond.

Russell B. Long
Class of 1939

Russell B. Long

U.S. Senator & Chairman, Senate Finance Committee

Son of Huey P. Long

Baton Rouge, LA

Brother Long built a legendary 38-year career in the United States Senate, serving as Senate Majority Whip and Chairman of the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Bringing the leadership and discipline he developed at Zeta Zeta to Capitol Hill, he championed legislation that impacted millions and served in Congress alongside fellow DKE brother Gerald Ford.

I expect to fight that proposition until hell freezes over. Then I propose to start fighting on the ice.

Honorable Paul M. Hebert
Class of 1929

Honorable Paul M. Hebert

Dean, LSU Law Center & Civilian Judge, Nuremberg Military Tribunals

East Baton Rouge Parish

Baton Rouge, LA

Paul served as the longest-serving Dean of Louisiana State University's Law School (1937–1977) and served as a civilian judge during the Nuremberg Military Tribunals in 1947–1948. Raised in Baton Rouge, he brought the core values of justice, leadership, and legal ethics honed during his time at DKE to the bench and higher education.

It is the function of education to build into character the moral and spiritual values which are so necessary... always to put truth in the first place and not in the second

Bob Pettit
Class of 1954

Bob Pettit

2x NBA MVP & Naismith Hall of Famer

St. Louis Hawks

Baton Rouge, LA

Bob led LSU to its first NCAA Final Four and went on to become a 2-time NBA MVP, 11-time NBA All-Star, and NBA Champion with the St. Louis Hawks. Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, he brought the drive, competitiveness, and leadership he honed at Zeta Zeta to both professional sports and a successful 23-year career in banking.

I had only $100 in the bank when I graduated from college, and $11,000 looked like all the money in the world to me.

Gov. Murphy J. "Mike" Foster Jr.
Class of 1952

Gov. Murphy J. "Mike" Foster Jr.

53rd Governor of Louisiana

State of Louisiana

Franklin, LA

Brother Mike served two terms as the 53rd Governor of Louisiana (1996–2004) following his service in the Louisiana State Senate. A successful businessman and LSU alumnus, he brought pragmatic leadership, education reform, and economic development to the state, embodying the commitment to public service honed during his time at Zeta Zeta.

Fair. Liberals like to use that word, fair. Get your fair share. Pay your fair share. It’s not fair for someone to have more than others, even if they worked for it and you didn’t. But the problem is, it is always someone else’s time and effort and money you want to share and be fair with. That is the trouble with socialism. . .

Jack Torrance
Class of 1934

Jack Torrance

World Record Shot Putter & 1936 Olympian

LSU Athletics / Chicago Bears

Baton Rouge, LA

Jack 'Baby Jack' Torrance helped lead LSU to its first-ever NCAA national team championship in 1933. In 1934, he shattered the shot put world record with a historic throw of 57 feet, 1 inch in Oslo, Norway—a record that stood unbeaten for 14 years. A multi-sport star, he represented the United States at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and went on to play offensive tackle for the NFL's Chicago Bears.

From setting world records in track and field to competing in the NFL, Jack Torrance brought the strength, determination, and competitive spirit developed at Zeta Zeta to the world stage.

Jimmy Rafferty
Class of 1982

Jimmy Rafferty

Former Mayor of Pass Christian

Louisiana House of Representatives

Baton Rouge, LA

Brother Jimmy Rafferty served as the Mayor of Pass Christian, Mississippi, from July 2021 to June 2025. During his term, Pass Christian was rated as the #1 safest City in the State of Mississippi, its marina was rated #1 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and its school district was rated #6 in the State of Mississippi. He partnered with State Legislators and managed to obtain over $25 million in grants for downtown development, harbor, water/sewerage and sidewalks.

Its all about relationships.
